UK drink driving related deaths at all time low
The number of deaths in drink-drive accidents fell to an all-time low last year, figures show. Deaths were down five per cent, falling from 400 in 2008 to 380 last year, while serious injuries were down nine per cent to 1,480. Slight injuries in drink-drive accidents fell eight per cent to 10,130, while the actual number of accidents involving a death remained unchanged at 350, the provisional government figures reveal. The number of drink-drive accidents fell seven per cent to 8,050, according to the statistics which are based on road accidents reported to police involving drinking and driving in Britain in 2009.
Brake 'horrified' at road safety cuts as cameras are switched off

Europe wants road deaths cut by 50%
A new target by the European Commission (EC) to halve road deaths in Europe by 2020 has been welcomed, but doubts have been voiced over whether it can be achieved. In 2009, 35,000 people were killed on European Union (EU) roads. The UK tally dropped by 12% to 2222 from previous figures.
