Public image

If you think of any major incident where deaths have occurred, such as Potters Bar, Hatfield or a plane crash, the disaster is repeatedly on the news and the public know the companies being held responsible. Although it is said that all publicity is good, this type most certainly isn’t.

It is the same on a smaller scale for road transport and fleets. Local press will report on serious road incidents and the image of a company’s fleet being involved in such an accident is extremely detrimental. The cost of the company’s directors being prosecuted for corporate manslaughter will be multiplied by the negative publicity.

Customers will be far more likely to retain your company’s services and prospects will be more likely to utilise your company if you can prove that your fleet activities are designed to reduce risks to a minimum.

Another benefit of having a pervasive Health and Safety culture is the signal it sends out to employees. An organisation that passionately believes in the health and well being of its employees will create a positive image that employees will notice. This is likely to make your company more attractive to work for, helping the management to reduce employee turnover and making recruitment far easier.

Having Health and Safety at the top of the agenda enforces the positive image that companies work hard to achieve - employees are valued and safety and risk reduction is of utmost importance.
