CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER ADVICE TO TOP AGENDA AS JAAMA UNVEILS MORE DATES FOR FLEET MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS
The impact on businesses of the new Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act will feature strongly in forthcoming fleet management workshops being held by Jaama.
The fleet management software and occupational road safety specialist has announced a series of autumn dates for its popular workshops with bookings now being taken.
One-day Fleet Managements Essentials workshops will be held on Tuesday, October 2 at the Best Western Weald Park Hotel, Brentwood (M24 J27/J28); and Thursday, October 11 at the Holiday Inn, Rotherham (M1 J33).
Meanwhile, the next date for the company’s popular Duty of Care and Green Fleet Management workshop is Thursday, September 27 with the event being held at the Best Western Calcot, Reading (M4 J12).
Fast growing Jaama’s reputation for being a one-stop shop for a wide range of vehicle management and driver solutions - including its information-packed seminars - was further enhanced this summer when the company was named ‘Fleet Services Company for 2007’ in awards presented by the Institute of Transport Management.
Over the past two years almost 1,000 people with fleet management responsibilities have attended Jaama’s workshops.
Jaama managing director Jason Francis said: “Our entire workshop programme has proved very popular, particularly with employees who combine fleet responsibility for cars and commercial vehicles with another role in their organisation and those who are new to vehicle management.
“The whole area of fleet management can be daunting, especially if you are new to the role or have ‘acquired’ the day-to-day running of the fleet as part of your responsibilities. In addition, we recognise and appreciate that operators of smaller or employee-owned fleets do not always have the luxury of a full time dedicated fleet manager and often new legislation and best practices can be missed.”
It is against that background that Jaama will use the workshops to allay apprehensions that many companies may have over the new Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, which comes into effect on April 6 next year.
Mr Francis said: “Evidence suggests that many small and medium sized fleets have not taken the necessary action to safeguard themselves against possible prosecution in the event of a serious road crash involving one of their employees.
“To comply with the new Act, as well as existing health and safety at work legislation which governs at-work driving, it is essential that all fleets carry out a comprehensive risk assessment and have in place a written audit trail of vehicles, drivers and journeys.
“At face value this may seem like an arduous workload. However, by following well established best practice risk management guidelines we will show seminar delegates that the steps they need to take to mitigate risks are straightforward.”
As well as an array of practical information, delegates will take away documents that they can adapt to meet their own individual fleet requirements including fleet policies and driver handbooks and risk management templates.
It costs £375 per delegate to attend a workshop, however regular promotions are run against these prices. For further details visit www.jaama.co.uk/events.apx.
