Fleet software in the news
JAAMA LAUNCHES COMPREHENSIVE AND EXPANDED 2007 FLEET SEMINAR PROGRAMME Unprecedented demand from companies for expert advice on the essentials of fleet management and implementing occupational road risk management policies has led to Jaama expanding its popular seminar programme in 2007.
The road safety and fleet software specialist has trained a total of 720 company directors, fleet managers and other employees with fleet responsibility over the past two years in occupational road safety best practice.
This year due to overwhelming exposure, pressure and demand from the government and society, Jaama’s Duty of Care seminars will be expanded to address environmental issues. Meanwhile, new Fleet Management Essentials workshops will be held for the first time in their own right.
Dates and venues for the Duty of Care incorporating Green Fleet Management seminars are: Thursday 22nd February, Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Nottingham; Tuesday 27th February, Holiday Inn Luton South; Thursday 15th March, Park Inn Hotel, Telford; Thursday 22nd March, Reading Moat House Hotel (M4, J10 or J11).
The Fleet Management Essentials workshops will take place on: Tuesday 27th March, Park Inn Hotel, Lakeside; and Tuesday 20th March, Holiday Inn, Brighouse.
The growing importance of corporate social responsibility dictates that all companies should have an environmental focus to their fleet and travel operations and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Explaining the close link between managing occupational road risk and environmental protection, Jaama managing director Jason Francis said: “Changing driver behaviour can have a major impact on real-world CO2 emissions. By encouraging drivers to anticipate what is ahead of them on the road and drive as smoothly as possible, avoiding harsh and aggressive acceleration and braking not only are they safer but their style of driving is ‘greener’.
“By adopting a smooth driving style there will also be added benefits such as improved fuel economy and reduced service, maintenance and repair costs as vehicle wear and tear will be cut.”
Although Fleet Management Essentials have been incorporated within the Duty of Care seminars, with the ever-increasing legislative and fiscal measures emanating from both Whitehall and Brussels impacting on Fleets, Jaama has developed an individual programme.
Particularly targeted at employees with part-time fleet responsibility or people new to the role of fleet manager, the workshops include an overview of vehicle fleet management essentials with the help of technology and everything from fleet costs, choosing and managing suppliers, best options for individual fleets, new van taxation and taxation based on emissions, green fleets and duty of care. Also included is a suite of documents that are essential to running a fleet.
Mr Francis added: “Implementing best practice fleet policies need not be as daunting as it first appears. With the correct policies, procedures and audit trails in place companies can satisfy their health and safety responsibilities. These implementations, in turn, will reduce crashes through better driving standards, reduce insurance premiums, reduce accident and related costs and reduce overall fleet operating costs.
“Additionally, those measures alongside careful vehicle selection, identifying the lowest CO2 emission vehicles and journey planning will help reduce a company’s carbon footprint.
