Fleet software in the news
Fleet software companies responsible for industry delay
Fleet software companies are in some cases directly responsible for causing the slow pace of change in our industry, according to software and road safety specialist Jaama.
Managing director Jason Francis, who has in the past called fleet technology progress 'painfully slow', said that fleet software companies themselves have to take some of the blame.
"Software companies have a habit of talking about products which are not yet developed and this is commonly known in the software industry as 'vapourware'," said Francis.
"The knock-on effect of companies talking about products which do not yet exist is that potential buyers tend to wait-and-see. If several suppliers adopt the same approach, then the cumulative effect is an ongoing cycle of delayed decisions based upon something better round the corner."
Francis, who has spent more than 20 years working in the fleet industry, set up Jaama almost a year ago with a number of colleagues from a rival fleet software firm. He advises fleet operators to decide on their requirements, look at what is available now and select the supplier who is most able to meet them with their existing product range.
