DAYS CONTRACT HIRE OFFERS CUSTOMERS DRIVER LICENCE CHECKING SERVICE THANKS TO JAAMA
Days Contract Hire, one of the UK’s largest independent vehicle leasing and fleet management companies, is now offering a driver licence checking service to customers courtesy of Jaama.
Swansea-based Days Contract Hire operates a fleet of more than 8,700 vehicles and has introduced licence checking as an added value service due to client demand.
The move comes in the wake of fleet software and risk management specialist Jaama launching a unique fully outsourced DVLA electronic driver licence checking service, which is designed to ease the administration for fleet decision-makers as they battle to reduce their employers’ risk exposure to at-work driving.
The importance of employers undertaking licence validity checks on their at-work drivers was recently underlined by Edmund King, president of the AA motoring organisation, after he was made aware of six drivers at a blue-chip company who did not hold a legal licence.
As a result, he called on more employers to ensure that they carry out DVLA driving licence checks on employees who drive for business.
Jay Lovell, maintenance controller at Days Contract Hire, said: “We have introduced driver licence checking following requests from customers for the service as they look to comply with best practice occupational road risk management advice.
“We surveyed the marketplace to look at the options available and after conducting a benchmarking exercise decided that Jaama offered the most comprehensive solution. We believe the new service will become increasingly popular with customers as they strive to meet their at-work driving duty of care responsibilities.”
Jaama managing director Jason Francis said: “Driver licence checking should be a vital component of every company’s occupational road risk management policy.”
Jaama’s fully outsourced licence checking service means that once a three-year mandate has been signed by drivers authorising their employer to check their licence with the DVLA the whole service is carried out online without the need for a hardcopy of the mandate to be sent to Jaama to comply with the DVLA’s auditing requirements.
Although some specialist driver licence checking companies already offer a fully outsourced service, the weakness of their offering is that they don’t provide fleet management software so the licence information gleaned from DVLA records cannot be collated with other vital information such as driving patterns, fuel consumption and vehicle usage, especially if the driver frequently changes vehicles.
Mr Francis said: “Our unique proposition is that we will handle all matters around the drivers’ mandate including issuing reminders to them; obtaining information from the DVLA; alerting fleet decision-makers to all licence issues that are uncovered; and upload the information.
“This means that not only is the administrative burden around driver licence checking completely removed from customers, but they will have all information on drivers and their vehicles held in one central database, building a combined intelligent profile and highlighting exceptions. It is a complete one-stop shop driver licence checking solution.”
