JAAMA’S HI-TECH FLEET MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE PAYS DIVIDENDS FOR THE CO-OPERATIVE GROUP
One of the best-known brand names in Britain, The Co-operative Group, is now using Jaama’s sophisticated online fleet management system to manage more than 3,000 vehicles nationwide.
And, over the next 12 months, the Key2 Vehicle Management system is expected be rolled out across the remainder of the Group’s fleet of company cars, light commercial vehicles and HGVs.
Across the Manchester-headquartered Group’s five business divisions - food, healthcare, travel, cash-in-transit and funeral care - there are more than 6,000 vehicles.
The Co-operative Group introduced Jaama’s Key2 system after scouring the marketplace for an online system that offered multi-user access nationally and a raft of functionality to optimise fleet efficiency and effectiveness.
Previously the Group had been using a central system that had been introduced in the 1990s and, according to group transport manager Ronnie Hutton, it had reached the ‘end of its useful life’.
He explained: “The business has expanded significantly in recent years and we wanted our depot managers to have access to the fleet management system at a local level.”
Currently employees at about 15 ‘hubs’ have system access which enables them to take local responsibility for vehicles, drivers, service, maintenance and repair issues and fuel management.
Jaama’s continuing focus on developing new Key2 functionality, most recently its Electronic Driver Services (EDS) module which is both a risk management tool and a driver information portal was crucial in the Group’s decision. Also vital was independent feedback from existing Jaama fleet customers.
Mr Hutton said: “We looked at many fleet management systems, but feedback from public and private sector companies that were already using the Jaama system was important in helping make our decision.
“The comments from individual operators as well as their collective thoughts, along with how Jaama is continuing to develop Key2 with new ‘bolt-on’ modules in partnership with existing clients were decisive.”
The phased implementation of the software across the Group currently means that around 2,400 cars and 950 light commercial vehicles and their drivers are on the system.
Mr Hutton said: “The complexity of the Co-op’s business meant that a phased roll-out of the software was operationally important. Since introducing the technology management of the vehicles has become much easier and more transparent.
“Fleet information can now be accessed at a local level without referral to the group transport department. Additionally, when data is inputted or changed its updates automatically throughout without manual intervention.”
He also praised the support and training that has been provided by Jaama saying: “That is all part of the process. We want to have a long-term relationship with Jaama and I can only see our partnership getting stronger and stronger.”
Jaama managing director Jason Francis said: “Not only has Jaama been successful in providing a fleet management software solution for The Co-operative Group’s complex transport requirements, but I am delighted that existing customer comments contributed to that decision.
“The Co-operative Group is joining businesses across Britain that are reaping the rewards of investing in the most sophisticated and modern fleet management software available.”
