Fleet software in the news
Jaama looks to expand
Jason Francis, Managing Director of -Jaama, says that an audit trail of all vehicles driven on business and all staff taking to the wheel is crucial to safeguarding any company against possible prosecution under the new Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide law. 'The long awaited law could be used to prosecute rogue companies whose drivers are involved in a serious road traffic accident. The new legislation will make it easier for companies to be prosecuted for gross negligence leading to deaths of employees or members of the public.
Companies found guilty face unlimited fines.' He says that the legislation make it essential that all fleets can prove they have taken every possible action to ensure the safety of staff who drive on business. 'The fact that it will be spring next year before police start to resort to the legislation means that companies now have a window of opportunity to ensure they are fully compliant with all legislation pertaining to at-work road safety. Even if the police do not believe they can get a successful prosecution under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act, they will continue to use laws including the 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulation 1999 against businesses breaching at-work driving rules.'
